Model Description
The Leica M2 adapted the M system to wider lenses. Its approximately 0.72× finder carried bright-line frames for 35mm, 50mm and 90mm lenses, allowing a 35mm lens to be framed directly without the accessory finder normally required on an M3. Construction was simplified in several respects, including the use of an external manually reset frame counter. The lower finder magnification and 35mm frame made the M2 particularly suitable for the focal lengths commonly used in reportage. The 0.72× arrangement subsequently became the standard basis for many later Leica M finders.
